Happy Sunday Fam!
We are officially in February, the LOVE month! And who doesn’t like Valentine's Day candy even if you don’t have a Valentine?
The theme for the month is Love in Action. And there’s no better way to demonstrate love in action than to practice patience while waiting for God to act on your behalf.
We love to talk about patience when we are dolling out advice to others, but when it’s our turn to wait for change in our lives, or in the lives of others, I don’t think anyone in their right mind is in love with waiting.
I’ll just speak for myself, I hate waiting!
My patience is short at times, and I have to work really hard to be still and let God handle things (Hey don’t judge me).
But guess what? When we are impatient with God, it is a sign of distrust.
My pastor said something this morning during his sermon that sat on my heart and stayed there. He said, (and I’m paraphrasing) we sometimes act like we know better than God how to deal with our lives.
Imagine that, knowing more than God!
It sounds ridiculous, right?
But it’s true. We do act like we know better than God.
As soon as we allow ourselves to become frustrated with God because of unwanted circumstances in our lives, we are acting as if God isn’t aware of what’s going on and that He doesn’t have everything under control already.
News Flash: God knows everything! He knows what you are thinking, what decisions you will make, what others will do, and how you will respond.
So, why is it so difficult to be patient and wait for God’s timing?
We don’t trust God enough. Ouch!
If you needed some money today, say one thousand dollars for something very important, and I told you that I could give you the money today, but if you waited until three days from now, I would give you a million bucks, I’m willing to bet that you would relax (and wait). Why?
Because you’d know that in just a short period, you would get enough money to solve whatever problem you’re having today. And maybe, what was so important might even become insignificant.
I know that’s a simplistic example, but this is how we need to demonstrate patience when waiting on God, knowing that He will give us exactly what we need, and most of the time give us more than we need.
We must learn to relax in God’s power.
If we could settle ourselves in the fact that not only is God able to provide what we need, but He will provide what we need—no matter what situations we might find ourselves in—we could demonstrate lives that were free of constant anxiety and worry.
We could sleep like babies at night, even if there was chaos on the job, in our homes, and all around us, knowing that God would fix the problem in due time, or help us fix our attitudes.
King David said he waited patiently on the Lord. That means without whining and complaining, of which I have been guilty, trust me.
I waited patiently for the Lord,
and He turned to me and heard my cry for help.Psalm 40:1, HCSB
One thing I know for certain is that God is patient with us. He doesn’t give up on us when our faith is shaky, and when we are doubtful of Him.
He doesn’t throw in the towel when we sin against Him (sometimes the same sins over and over). He sees us as finished products, and all the while He continues to shape us into the image of Christ.
Instead of throwing a fit and doubting God’s love when you find yourself in adverse situations, put your trust in Him, He is always doing something in your life!
Practice patience by waiting on Him without whining and complaining, knowing that He has the best solution for your situation!
Peace and Love
Until Next Time,
