Embracing Seasons of Disruption
We don’t always make the right decisions for our lives. Sometimes God has to guide us where He wants us to go with a little more force than we’d like.
Welcome to the 26th issue of The Aim and Soar Life, a weekly Christian personal growth and lifestyle newsletter that provides actionable, relatable, biblically rooted content to help you live abundantly and GROW YOU. GOD’S WAY.
Hello Fam!
If God has ever derailed your plans, this post is for you!
There is an old joke that says, “If you want to make God laugh, make some plans.” Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that God is ultimately in control of our lives.
A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.Proverbs 16:9, NKJV
Throughout my life, there have been numerous times when I was convinced that I had “the best-laid plans,” only to watch my plans go up in smoke. I had to learn to pray before I made decisions—and I mean to pray about everything!
There’s no such thing as a minute or insignificant petition if something really concerns us. The Lord wants us to depend on Him as a child depends on his/her parent. I was so blessed when I came across Psalm 138:8
The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.Psalm 138:8, NKJV
What in the World is Going On?
The Lord is concerned with your day-to-day living and how you respond to the things that cause you anxiety or angst. You may be asking, “If He really does care so much, then why am I going through this particular situation?” I have an answer. You may be experiencing a season of disruption. You planned for one thing to happen, but God did something else.
According to the Oxford dictionary, disruption is defined as disturbance or problems which interrupt an event, activity or process. And I really love Oxford’s second definition: radical change to an existing industry or market due to technological innovation.
God is doing something when your life seems interrupted. You may be viewing the interruption or disruption as a problem, but God is the God of radical change and innovation! You must always remember that He loves you. When He acts, whether it feels good to you or not, He is acting on your behalf and in your BEST interest.
We don’t always make the right decisions for our lives. Sometimes God has to guide us where He wants us to go with a little more force than we’d like.
For example, most people would view losing their job as a serious problem, especially if the loss occurs suddenly.
What could be worse than that, right? Well, if you let your fingers do a little walking through the streets of Google, you would find ministries, businesses, and families that began and grew because someone lost a job. God was up to something! It may not feel good at the time, but in the end, God is in the blessing business. Most of all, God wants you to be on the right path— the one He has already planned for you.
A Case Study on Disruption
The story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50) in the Bible is a prime example of what can happen when God disrupts someone’s life. Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. His journey took him to prison, and finally to a high-level administrative position in Egypt. He was able to save his entire family from famine. Yup. Including the ones who sold Him into slavery in the first place. If that sounds like a bumpy ride, it is! But there are reasons why even the bumpy seasons need to be embraced:
1. God disrupts our lives to make us move
