Greetings Friend!
Happy Sunday!
It’s hot apple cider time! Yaay!
The theme for October is Closer! Come with me on a month-long journey that will help us get closer to God. I will be exploring a few spiritual disciplines this month and I pray that during your journey in this season, you will experience God in new ways as you give Him more of yourself.
Have You Ever Been in Love?
If you have ever been in love, you know how exciting it feels to spend hours and hours conversing with the one you love.
The anticipation of hearing from your special person makes you smile and causes butterflies to waltz around in your stomach.
You find that the more time you spend talking with your special person or simply being with them, your level of knowledge about them grows. As a result, you grow deeper in love with them.
To keep that relationship strong, you continue spending quality time with your special person and continue to learn all you can about them.
Prayer is the most precious way for us to deepen our relationship with God and grow closer to Him. When you are intentional about your prayer life, you will experience God in ways you never have before.
God is so awesome that He is always willing to reveal Himself to us in new ways! He illuminates the Word for us when we are focused on Him.
What Have You Been Praying for Lately?
What have you been praying for lately? My prayer for the last few weeks has been, “Lord, I want you to love me!” This has been my cry out to Him during my morning meditation and worship time because I want to be different. I want to be better. I want to be a woman who the Lord looks at and smiles.
When I pray, “Lord, I want you to love me!” I’m not asking for something new from Him. God has already proven His love for me by dying for me and giving me eternal life. What I am telling Him is that I want Him to delight in me! I want Him to be happy with me.
The steps of a good man are [a]ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
Psalm 37:23
Only God can teach me how to be a woman that brings Him joy.
But first, I must delight in Him!😍
Most of us grow up thinking prayer is a way for us to encourage God to give us what we want. But it isn’t.
Prayer is a way for us to strip all pretense and pride from our lives and come to God humbly, yet boldly.
When we come to God to just ask for things from Him, we are missing the point of a beautiful relationship!
Think about it. How would you feel if someone you loved with your whole heart only talked to you when they wanted something from you?
When we come to God in prayer seeking His way and His will we are delighting ourselves in Him!
Psalm 37:4 tells us that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
and He shall give you the desires of your heart.Psalm 37:4
The Word stands true. And I’m here to tell you a little secret. When you mature spiritually, you begin to pray for the desires of God’s heart.
When you delight yourself in Him you begin to want what He wants. Then, when you pray, you ask God for the things that align with His will. You pray to become a better servant, a better mother or father, a better giver, or a better worshipper. You pray God’s heart.
God knows every secret desire you have. He knows the things you need, and He gives you what you need. But He gives you according to His plan for your life—not your plan.
Prayer is your way to build a beautiful relationship with God and get to know Him more deeply. There is so much to learn about God because He is so awesome!
We can easily take our relationship with Him for granted by focusing more on ourselves when we pray.
Let your prayers be focused on pleasing God.
He has given us the right to come to Him because He is our loving Father. He wants us to depend on Him for all aspects of our lives. Come to Him with an attitude of gratitude, ready to turn yourself over to Him. Come to Him ready to let go of your desires and give them to Him.
Remember Abraham? He was ready and willing to give up the desire of his heart—his only son.
Abraham’s action of being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac pleased God because it demonstrated that Abraham trusted God enough that he didn’t hold anything back from God. And he was blessed beyond measure because of his faith in God.
I dare you to give God your secret desires and let Him search your heart and determine if what you want is what He wants for you.
It takes bravery to let go and allow God to have full control over your life. You can do this by not holding anything back from Him.
Turn up your prayer life by devoting yourself to God during your prayer time. Pray that He gives you the desires of His heart. Search His Word and get to know Him afresh.
Be motivated to make God smile.
Fall in love with God all over again when you pray to Him!
Peace and Love.
Until Next Time,
GROW YOU. GOD’S WAY.
